Enter your stays in the Schengen area to count the days you have used in the 180 days up to any date, and the longest stay you could start on a date you choose. It runs in your browser and is not the official check: the European Commission's calculator is.

The rule
The European Commission says that if you are visiting any country in the Schengen area, you are usually allowed to stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. It puts the count this way: “You must count back 180 days from each day of your stay and ensure the total number does not exceed 90.”1 Our page on the 90/180-day rule explains who it applies to, and which countries are in the Schengen area.
How this calculator counts
- Each stay counts every calendar day from the day you enter to the day you leave, both days included. This is our method; the Commission's page we cite does not spell it out.
- For a date, it adds up your days in the area in the 180 days ending on that date, that date included.
- For a planned entry date, it finds the longest stay from that date during which no day goes over 90.
The Commission says not to enter time spent on an EU residence permit or a long-stay (D-type) visa: long stays are not subject to the rule.1 Check with the Commission's official short-stay calculator before you travel.
