Where Finnish residents travel in summer and winter

TL;DR

Where Finnish residents travelled abroad in 2025, from official statistics. Top destinations: May to August (summer): Estonia, Sweden and Greece; January to April (winter): Spain, Estonia and Sweden. Figures are trips as the statistics office counts them, so they are not comparable with other countries' pages.

Where Finnish residents went in May to August 2025 (summer)

The ten countries Finnish residents visited most in May to August 2025, with each country's share of its whole year that fell in those months.1

Finnish residents: top destinations, May to August 2025
RankDestinationTripsShare of that destination's year
1Estonia470,00048.0%
2Sweden330,00043.4%
3Greece190,000–
4Norway180,000–
5Spain170,00024.3%
6Italy130,00035.1%

A dash in the share column means part of that destination's year is missing or suppressed in the source, so no share is given.

Left out because a month or quarter is missing or suppressed in the source: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, France, Hungary, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

Countries whose busiest four-month period for Finnish residents falls in May to August: Estonia, Sweden.1

What these figures are

Overnight trips abroad by Finnish residents aged 15 to 84, published in thousands and only where at least 100,000 trips were made, so smaller destinations are not shown. Cruises and day trips are not included. Busy months for a destination reflect when Finnish residents travel, not the weather there or prices. Statistics Finland publishes four-month periods: May to August stands for summer and January to April for winter (December is not included). Each statistics office counts trips differently, so do not compare these numbers with another country's page.

For other countries' travellers, see summer and winter getaways; for the weather at the destinations, weather and climate.

Key takeaways

  • May to August (summer): Estonia first, with 470,000 trips.
  • January to April (winter): Spain first, with 250,000 trips.
  • What we would skip: comparing these numbers with another country's; each office counts differently.
